Google Genie

Google Genie

Google seems intent to make all my unvoiced technical dreams come true. So to make their jobs easier, I've decided to "voice" my actual requests for my most recent Google Gem, Google Voice. In return, I'll share with them how they can get me to pay for it.

Software I'd pay money for

Linux has been my primary Desktop for about 13 years now. As such I rarely have to pay for software. Open source is just awesome that way. Yet when I thought about it I have paid for Codeweavers Crossover Linux,  despite the fact that its available for free as wine. I've also paid for Zend's  Studio for Eclipse  even though much of the functionally is available in the PDT plugin for Eclipse. While I don't do so currently, I've been known to pay for SuSE Linux  and StarOffice.

I think I'm in love

Nokia has unveild the N810 I *so* have to get me one of these.

Why I'll be updating to Fedora Core 5

I've stepped away from living on the edge. I no longer download the lastest nightly of Firefox nor grab each and every test version of OpenOffice. My time has become a much valued comodity  and generally speaking I just don't need the latest and greatest anymore.  My business and even my home network requires stabilty. Therefore each release of Fedora is thoroughly  evaluated  before I decide if  its worth taking the time to install on my various systems. FC4 got me because I needed to have PHP 5.0, MySQL 4.1.

Ubuntu + CNR.... a match made in heaven?

In case you hadn't heard, Linspire has been considering offering CNR for Ubuntu. If they do this Ubuntu may actually become my desktop of choice. I never really liked Lindows, don't know if it's because of the name or KDE, or the stupidly insecure way they deal with root access. I've never really thought it was worth converting.

Building The Perfect GNOME Workstation

Here is a pretty good article on configuring GNOME. I learned a few things so I thought I'd share.

Microsoft So...?

Okay so Microsoft has started releasing info on its Origami Project, because there was a leak and the infomation was getting out anyway. (And this is supposed to be the company that we will trust with all our securety needs?). What I don't get is why all the fuss? Knowing MS there is no way its going to do all that MS is saying its going to do (and so far they are mostly just hinting at what its supposed to do anyway). The Nokia 770 is here now.

Cool Gadget of the day

Sometimes when looking at a product my geek senses start tingling and I start figuring out how I can justify buying one. My current must have gadget is the tank less water heater. Hey I live in the Desert, where there hasn't been any rain for over 120 days so I could say that my interst is in water conservation.
